The Solo Adventure

For this adventure, I will be traveling solo for six days along one of the most well renowned bicycle trips in the U.S.  Conde Naste Magazine considers this as one of the top 17 best rail trails in the world.

Traveling alone was a virgin experience for me in 2013 when I bicycled the Ohio to Erie Trail from Cincinnati to Cleveland across the State of Ohio.  It ended up being one the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life.  Bicycling was brand new to me but I learned so much and made some great connections.  I was told by other cyclists about the Great Allegheny Passage and told that I needed to do it so it just made sense to put it on my adventure itinerary for 2014!

Going solo means that other than getting dropped off in Pittsburgh by family, its completely up to me to get my butt to my destination each day.  I've pre-planned the distance each day with reservations at one bed & breakfast, one guest house, one hostel and three hotels for the entirety of my journey.  I pack all my gear: tools, clothes, supplies and food in three bags attached to the rear rack so space is limited and I try to minimize the weight by packing as lightly as possible.  That means I pack the bare minimum and other than a pair of comfy sweat pants to wear in the evenings when I'm relaxing in my room, there are no luxury items.
